Marblehead Youth Football is part of the Cape Anne Youth Football League. The league divides player by grade and includes 6th, 7th and 8th grade select teams. Each grade level includes a weight limit. Players must be under the weight limit to carry the football.
The season begins on the second Monday of August, and typically involves a week for evaluation practices, which may be 4-5 times/week. During the season, practices are at the coaches’ discretion and typically are scheduled 3 times/week.
There are approximately 9 scheduled weekend games.
Playing Level Structure:
Required if 12 or more 8th grade players; not required if fewer; Limited to players in 7th and 8th grade; Maximum weight for unrestricted players is 158 lbs.
Not required. Limited to players in 7th and 8th grade; If multiple teams, 8th graders must be split evenly (by number & talent) among teams; Maximum weight for unrestricted players is 145 lbs.
Required if 18 or more 6th grade players; not required if fewer; Limited to players in 5th and 6th grade; Maximum weight for unrestricted players is 120 lbs.
Not required:Limited to players in 5thand 6th grade; if multiple teams, 6th Graders must be split evenly (by number and talent)among teams; Maximum weight for unrestricted players is 120 lbs.
Comprised of 3rd and 4th grade players. This level is played all "in town" and has been historically broken up into 6 separate teams. The D level practices at the Green St Field and plays games at Gatchells or Hopkins. The weight limit for ball carriers is 93lbs.
The A, B, and C levels have a playoff structure which consists of the following:
Teams who qualify for the playoffs will meet during Week 9 of the season for the first round of playoffs. Those teams who do not make the playoffs will be matched up with an equivalent non-playoff team for their Week 9 season finale. Winners of the Week 9 playoff games will play in the CAYFL Super Bowl game the following Sunday.
Please Note: The A, B, and C teams are chosen each year from evaluations, if a player was on one of these teams in 2013 it is not guaranteed that they will make the select team in 2014.
